The impact of meetings tourism in Madrid grew in 2014. According to the report produced by Madison Market Research, this tourist segment generated an economic impact in the city of 816 million euros, an increase of 7.4% compared to 2013. The rise in international meetings (+3.2%) and of foreign delegates (+18.4%), the ones who spend more money per day in the city, has favourably influenced these results.

From 31 January until 15 February, this great gastronomic event celebrates its sixth edition, with an activity-packed programme presented today by Mayor Ana Botella, and in which culinary art is combined with other disciplines including painting, fashion, film and literature. The mayor of Madrid, Ana Botella, today presented the Faro de Moncloa rehabilitation project. Expected to reopen at the end of March, the transmission tower which was built in 1992 to commemorate the election of Madrid as a European Capital of Culture will once more become one of the city’s most impressive viewpoints.

Nearly 300 event organisers chose Madrid Destino venues in 2014

Municipal venues are enviable settings for events held in Madrid. In 2014 Madrid Destino rented out its venues for 38 fairs, 27 congresses, 156 corporate events and 73 other gatherings, which were attended by a combined total of 1,150,000 people. 294 organisers chose to hold their events in venues managed by the municipal company, which has become a key player in promoting one of the city's strategic sectors. The company also develops the programmes for municipal cultural institutions.
